Many expats have recently found themselves in search of homes. That’s thanks to economic woes which have prompted some companies in Qatar to stop providing accomodation for their employees, instead giving a housing allowance to do with what they will. In some ways, this is great – the global recession has also caused real estate prices in Doha to fall dramatically, making it a renter’s market.

But entering a contractual agreement in a country that you’ll never call home has its caveats. And despite a new rent law designed to protect tenants, Qatar has a long way to go when it comes to sorting out the landlord/tenant relationship.
